If you haven’t read the section on Adwords, please do it before reading this page. The reason is because Adsense is about placing other company’s Adwords on your Website or Blog. So, unless you know and understand Adwords, you may not understand this section.
What is Adsense? It is a “Google” Search Engine pay-per-click program which lets you sell other people’s ads on your website. Google selects and places the ads that complement your site’s content.
How does it work? When you sign up on Google’s Adsense page, you receive a code, which you enter on your webpage where the ads will appear. Google surveys your website to understand what it is all about, and then selects appropriate Adword ads to place on your site . Since Google receives money every time a person or company’s Adword is clicked, they share that income with you if the ad is found on your site. This, of course, makes the advertisers happy as more visitors are being sent to their websites. (Note, you can’t click on those ads yourself or ask your visitors to do so. If you do, Google will know you did and kick you off the program).
How much can I make? The pay-per-click rate cost varies according to the Adwords contract between Google and the person or company placing the ad. That can range from a few cents to many dollars. If you have a website with high-cost Adwords and have a high number of visitors, you could make some significant money off the Adsense program alone. For instance, if you had 1,000 visitors a day and the Adwords were paying $25 per click, you could have anywhere from 10 to 40 persons clicking those ads. That would mean an income between $250 to $1,000 per day. If the Adwords are low-cost ones, you’d have to have a large number of websites or a great many more visitors to do as well. Remember, Google picks the Adwords, not you. Either way, you can see that it is not a simple and easy job to make significant money this way.,p> How do I find out which ads are high-paying?.The answer to this question is not one of great significance if you are working with a website already in existence. However, if you did know of some high-cost Adwords complementary to your site, you could possibly modify the text in your site to encourage Google to select them. On the other hand, if you haven’t started your webpage yet, you might want to find the highest cost Adword sites, and build your website to those contents.Google has software to help you do that, as does several other independent programs. With Google, you open an Adword account, and look for Traffic Estimator. By using different Keywords in Adwords, you can find the cost per click as well as how many clicks they average in a day. It is a try-and-see process that will take much effort and time. Some persons have developed special programs to help you do this easier and faster.
How do I get visitors to my website? There are several ways to do this, such as sending emails announcing your page, writing an article and listing it on Internet “Article directories” with a link to your page, placing ads on other person’s Blogs, running ads in the newspaper, etc.Ideally, the best approach is to work the keywords used in your website so that you have a good chance of being listed on the first two or three pages of search results, when someone makes a search for content similar to yours. The process to accomplish this is called Search-Engine-Optimization, or SEO. This is analyzing and selecting which keywords to use on your webpage title and text that will accomplish the goal. By now you begin to see that Keywords are very important to being successful with the Adsense program. The Google Traffic Estimator is a good place to start. Another program similar is Overtures.com which does analyses on Yahoo’s Directory system. the results should be close to the Google results. Keyword analysis and selection is so important to operating a successful web business, that we have a separate article and referrals devoted to that subject (see our home page).
How good must my webpage be?Your webpages will eventually determine how well you do with the Adsense program. After all, Google is going to survey your website to determine which Adwords to place there, and they are fussy. They are concentrating more and more on sites devoted to information rather than product sales. They also want your text to be well written and unique. By “unique” means you haven’t copied someone’s stuff (They can easily tell if you do). You CAN se other people’s articles providing you rewrite them to the extent that at least 40% are your words and new material.)Finally, Google will determine if your website is well organized or not and whether you have any worthwhile content. If you have a good website, you'll get good Adword ads placed there by Google.
