If a web business’s website is just assembled and submitted to the search engines, the chance that the listing would show up on the first few pages of listing results would be extremely rare. More than likely, it would be on page 20 or later, and the business may never get any visitors. However, a web business’s website listing can be designed to achieve appearance on the first couple of pages of a user search, and have a chance of getting lots of visitors, This can be done even without paying for Search Engine advertising. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a process to achieve this goal. The main task involved is to find the keyword phrase to be incorporated into the website’s web page text and title that matches the phrase a user is likely to use when searching for information in the category area of the website. The keywords must be unique enough to eliminate much of the competition using similar phrases. Considering the vast number of users using the Internet every day, this is not an easy task, unless one utilizes the several free software programs available on the web, and possibly buying a commercial program. When considering keywords, there is recognition that a user is more than likely to use a combination of keywords rather than a single word when doing a search. There is further consideration that the searcher will be demanding the search be limited to the user’s specific arrangement of his keywords. For instance, a search using the phrase “web business information” without the quotes will cause the search engine to first look for web pages where the “web” word is predominate, then look for “business” and finally, “information.” The result will probably have a huge mix of listings, where many have no relevance at all to the combined phrase. So, the user will use the particular search engine’s routine for the search to be limited to just the three words as given, by either putting the phrase under quotes or plus signs between the words. Then, the search engine will not look for each word separately, but for just the exact combination as written. As would be expected for the technical environment of the Internet, software programs are able to search, compile and analyze the actions that take place daily. Here are some (not all) of the information available for a specific keyword phrase either by free programs on Google or privately developed programs: As you can see, you could spend a tremendous amount of trial-and-error, time and effort before you arrive at a phrase to include in your web page's title and content, that would increase your website listing being displayed to users doing searches. That is exactly what many web businesses did, and some are still doing. Fortunately, that problem is becoming easier by a group of both free and commercial software programs designed to speed up the analysis process. Google has free software available to aid your analyses. In fact, one successful marketer claims that the free Google formulas are the only ones he has ever used. Elsewhere on the web, are software programs that have a "free" version which can be used either permanently, or for a short term. Purchases of commercial keyword analysis software can be made for around $70, or for hundreds of dollars for a year service (no outright sale). One successful marketer, Brad Callen, has published a free 90-page
step-by-step report on how to do all the things you can do with a web page to make it really effective, and bring visitors in large numbers. Actually, it is the only report that we have seen which lays out the process so clearly a brand new “newbie” can understand each step. We believe anyone attempting SEO should read this report, and we are pleased to be able to tell you that you may download it here, right now!
