SEARCH ENGINES SUBMITTAL There are thousands of search engines on the Internet, but newer users are probably only aware of Google, Yahoo, MSN and AOL. Older users know that if you want to translate a sentence or paragraph or look for images, they call up Alta Vista.com. Others remember and still use the likes of Excite, Megacrawler, etc.

The website searchenginewatch.com reports that in 2006, there were 213,000,000 searches a day on the internet. Assuming the average user made 10 searches a day, there are some 20,000,000 users or more each day on the Internet. Not everyone uses the web every day indicating a really huge number of web users. Today, one source put the estimate at over 900,000,000 users.

Also in 2006, according to the same source, 43.7% of all users were using Google, 28.8% were using Yahoo, 12.8% were using MSN, 5.9% were using AOL and 5.4% were using ASK (Ask Jeeves). 3.4% were using others. From recent newspaper headlines, one would suspect that Google is now used by 70% or more of searchers.

As a result of numbers like this, many recommend you to only submit your website URL to Google, Yahoo and MSN. AOL is automatically covered by Google. I agree that these are the ones to start with, then wait a month and go to the companies that submit to all engines and directories. The 8.8% or so that are not covered by the big three amounts to approximately 1,800,000 user/searchers each day! So why ignore an audience like that, especially when in one day you could submit to all of them through Internet companies that do it for you? You could pick up a sufficient maillist from that one-day's effort.

Don’t use the mass submitters for logging onto the big three. They could get mad at you. Your first submittal of your website must be done individually. Once you are registered in and you later use a mass submitter, the big three won’t thrw you out, because you are already in -- the right way. So, wait a month or so after submitting to the big three, before going to the mass submitters. Submit your URL to Google,Yahoo and Msn at these addresses:

GOOGLE
http://www.Google.com//addurl

YAHOO
http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit

MSN
http://search.msn.com.sg/docs/submit.asp?form=wsut

Whatever you do, make sure you tie into Google or Yahoo system with a program like Adsense. That alone means that search engine wants your site to come up often.

Remember that there are very specialized search engines that may be worth checking. These engines cater to a “Niche” market product or interest. For instance, I have a software program for managing trust accounts. If I find there is a specialized search engine devoted to non-family caregivers, my product may well help them keep detailed records of how they spent their client's money, and keep them out of trouble. So, I should make sure I’m on their list.
